After nearly losing everything, Auckland charter boat operator Mal Maclean has surged back with a vengeance, with his business, Ocean Groove Cruises, having recently been awarded a Bronze Qualmark in recognition of their sustainability efforts, while also gaining a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice 2022 award. Mal’s recent success is a fantastic reminder of how persistence and resourcefulness can pay off in the long run. 

Case study: Black Collar Distillery

Kerikeri business Black Collar Distillery is quickly becoming a well-recognised brand in the world of quality spirits. The man behind it all, Jonathan McLean, spent years in the United Kingdom learning and perfecting the art of handcrafting spirits. He ultimately decided to begin this business journey in his native New Zealand. So once he secured the funds and equipment he needed, Jonathan flew back home and set up shop in the Bay of Islands.

Discovering the Northland region with BDO Northland and four days of cycling. 2020 marks the 20th edition of the BDO Tour of Northland, which sees riders of all abilities, from across New Zealand and throughout the World, come together to take part in a four day cycling occasion.

Since 2001, the iconic Northland event has played host to approximately 300 riders from across New Zealand and usually throughout the world. With Covid-19 travel restrictions still in place, this year's event still managed to attract around 260 keen riders to the Northland region – including many BDO cyclists from various offices.
