Winner of the first BDODrive Business Boost Competition

09 August 2018

For a local Matakana business, it was a case of the chicken, rather than the goose that laid the golden egg.

Whangaripo Valley Eggs beat scores of entries from across the country to win the BDODrive Business Boost Competition.

The Business Boost Competition is for small to medium-size organisations who have aspirations to grow, with $10,000 worth of personalised accounting and business advisory expertise up for grabs.

Andrew Hill, a Partner with BDO’s Takapuna office commented,

Whangaripo Valley Eggs won the competition due to the commitment and enthusiasm of owners, Matthew and Gill Quested, coupled with a sound business model.”

He continued,

What Matthew and Gill and their team have created in the beautiful rolling hills outside Matakana is a sustainable business, providing work for local people and a truly free-range environment. Whangaripo hens are free to roam across a generous area during the day, coming home to a comfortable hen house in the evening. They offer ethically raised eggs from people who genuinely care about their animals.

Owner Matthew Quested was delighted with the win, commenting,

“The prize will give us the opportunity to step back and really focus on working ‘on’ rather than ‘in’ our business. We are going to work with BDO to explore funding models and creating our own brand.”
