BDO Clients in the Community

08 June 2020

We are #BDOproud of our clients for helping the local community during COVID-19. Read the inspirational client stories below:

The Student Volunteer Army (SVA) Christchurch

We are #BDOproud of our client SVA. Ten years on from the Christchurch Earthquakes, the Student Volunteer Army mobilised again to respond to the pandemic and resulting lockdown. With supermarket delivery services already heavily oversubscribed, many vulnerable groups found themselves worried and at risk of not being able to get essential supplies. The Student Volunteer Army built an online store, and in partnership with New World, arranged for volunteers to pick the orders and delivered them safely to the door of those that couldn't just 'pop to the shop' to get groceries - over 65's, solo parents, essential workers and those living with a medical condition.

"We love working with BDO - they are great people who are doing meaningful work and helping their clients succeed. Their support enables us to make big wins in high impact projects."

Aotearoad

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Aotearoad Limited began making 100% natural and sustainable hand sanitiser and facemasks. Aotearoad took on local seamstresses, out of work due to Covid-19 to help produce the masks, these woman are now employed for the duration of the lockdown and beyond. When you buy an Aotearoad face-mask a percentage of the profits will be used to get masks out to those in need - the communities most at risk in New Zealand.  Aotearoad shipped 120 medical masks to The Red Cross Meals on Wheels initiative, to help protect the volunteers who work tirelessly to deliver food to the most isolated and vulnerable in our community. In total Aotearoad are donating 400 medical masks to Not-for-profit organisations around New Zealand that are slipping through the cracks. The hand sanitiser complies with WHO guidelines and the masks use an inserted filter that has been tested by the filter manufacturer to omit viruses up to 80% using one layer of filter. The same HELIX™ filtration technology platform is currently used in various devices and PPE. View Aotearoad's Instagram to see more of their sustainable products.

Hospice West Auckland

Hospice West Auckland are an incredible organisation who provide dignified and compassionate palliative and specialist palliative care for people at the end of their lives. Wayne Monteith – BDO Auckland audit partner recently donated a number of BDO laptops to Hospice West Auckland to help them with their operations and with a view to making a real difference.

“I wanted to say a huge thank you from all of us here at Hospice West Auckland for your very generous donation of laptops. Your donation is the reason our teams are able to work from home at the moment. Every staff member had all equipment needed to work remotely and we are wholeheartedly grateful to BDO for that. “ Barbara Williams, Chief Executive Officer, Hospice West Auckland
